Learn about the Uniform Guidance’s procurement standards in detail during this special Summer 2026 edition of the “Procurement Boot Camp.”  This two-part training will explain required policies, methods of procurement, contract terms, and more.  The course will also cover the changes to key purchasing requirements in the OMB’s recent and proposed revisions to the Uniform Guidance.  During this exclusive training, you will learn about the following topics:

  • Current Uniform Guidance procurement standards
  • Recent changes affecting procurement standards
  • OMB’s proposed revisions to procurement requirements

SCHEDULE

Join your fellow grants management professionals for this updated edition of the  “Procurement Boot Camp” for Summer 2026.  For our attendees’ convenience, the training will be presented in two parts.  The “Procurement Boot Camp” will be held on Wednesday, August 19, and Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 2:00 until 4:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time (1:00 pm to 3:00 pm Central Daylight Time, 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm Mountain Daylight Time, and 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Pacific Daylight Time).  In addition to the live training, paid registrants will receive free access to an on-demand recording for 30 days following each installment.

This session will begin with relevant background information before discussing the basic standards for procurement found in the current version of the OMB's Uniform Grants Guidance. Participants will learn about required policies and procedures as well as standards for adequate competition under the Uniform Guidance. Examples of adequate and inadequate competition will be discussed. In addition, attendees will learn about the acceptable methods of procurement under the Uniform Guidance.

This session will build upon the basic procurement requirements discussed in the first installment of the "Procurement Boot Camp."  Attendees will learn about the required terms and conditions in grant-funded contracts as well as contracting best practices and recommended contract terms.  This session will also discuss common procurement problem areas and the steps that grant-funded organizations can take to avoid them.  Participants will learn how to identify potential issues and implement strategies to minimize the risk of noncompliance.

OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES

After completing the online “Procurement Boot Camp,” you will be able to:

  • Describe recent revisions to the Uniform Guidance’s procurement standards
  • Identify proposed revisions to the Uniform Guidance’s procurement standards
  • Outline the requirements for procurement using Federal grant funds
  • Identify required procurement policies and procedures (as well as best practices)
  • List the Uniform Guidance’s acceptable methods of procurement
  • Outline the major advantages and disadvantages of common procurement contracts
  • List the terms required under the OMB’s Uniform Grants Guidance for procurement contracts
  • Describe at least three procurement problems and at least one strategy for overcoming each problem

AUDIENCE

This two-part series is recommended for all grants management professionals wanting to know more about procurement requirements under the revised OMB Uniform Guidance.  The experience level for this program is overview.  No specific educational background is necessary.  No advance preparation and no prerequisites are required to attend.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

Each installment in the “Procurement Boot Camp” series is recommended for two (2) hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit in the field of specialized knowledge in accordance with the rules of the Texas State Board of Professional Accountancy.  Credit is available only for the live training, and attendees will need to answer at least 8 of 10 questions asked during each live session to receive credit for that installment.  The experience level for each installment in this series is overview.  No prerequisites or specific educational background requirements for attendance exist, and advance preparation is not required.

SPEAKER

R. Brian Tipton is a practicing attorney who has more than twenty-five years of experience working with a wide range of nonprofits, governmental units, and other grant-funded organizations across the United States.  Currently, Brian is Managing Director with Tipton KPCL in metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia, where he heads the firm’s tax-exempt and grant-funded solutions practice.  He is a summa cum laude graduate of the Louisiana State University and the Cumberland School of Law of Samford University.  He regularly represents grant-funded entities of all types in the areas of regulatory compliance, audits, funding source disputes, administrative appeals, and litigation.  Brian also consults with organizations on governance, human resources, programmatic, and corporate matters, and develops and presents training programs for nonprofits and grant-funded organizations.
